Pip Pullen of An Agency -
Way We Used to Do It

‘Advertising’ is a term that not only gets thrown around with abandon these days, but is now basically and sadly synonymous with ‘Marketing.’ Pip will talk about what inspired him to dedicate his career to brand advertising, and more generally to fight for the high ground for what real advertising — and real advertising agencies — should do.

Break Out:
Meg Fee of Ideo - Design Thinking

Design Thinking, the need to believe and listen to the people you're designing for, and the power of story in bringing that design to life.

Liz Matin of Public Art - Using Public Art in Marketing: The Musts and the Don'ts

Public art is everywhere and it's perfect for marketing all kinds of brands. It's always on trend, it's accessible, and it seems free, but you'd be wrong about that last part. Learn about the role of copyright in public art and the ways you can avoid legal issues by doing the right thing when using public art in marketing. You'll learn the etiquette to get access to really fun and relevant backdrops to your next marketing campaign, and build relationships in the arts community that can lead to meaningful partnerships.

What’s with all the neon?

Neon was the first electric signage — the only form of advertising where the medium is the message.

Our industry has seen trends come and go. It wasn’t so long ago that advertising innovation came in the form of neon - the first electric signage. Part sculpture, part lighting, and part billboard, the brightness, drama, and iconic lettering of neon signage reaches the eye and commands attention — day or night. While neon’s novelty has dimmed over the years, its spirit remains. It begs the question: How can we innovate, inspire, illuminate and celebrate the incredible work we do even further?
